Foundling is the sonic reincarnation of Sheffield born nomadic producer and visual artist Jonathan Fox. On this newly re-released EP 'Wake up in Bits' he connects the dots between oscillating bass strides, slowly morphing electro-acoustic textures and soft noise. Fox links found-sound artefacts to various kinds of acoustic elements be it inconspicuously used vocal modulations or a reverb piercing saxophone wail. As both the approach and the track names suggest "Wake up in Bits" contains sonic moments of the small, the invisible and the omnipresent; with its contemplative minimalistic harmonies buried beneath blurry vibrating drone. Holding strongly to its self-imposed limitations the EP is more intuitive than conceptual. Its one for early morning and late night listening, augmenting and muting the harsh noise of daily life.
"Wake up in Bits" is out on October 30th via Proto Sites. It comes as a limited edition tape and as a new digital extended edition with bonus track "I Crawled the Earth" a previously left out chapter of this story.
